Evie Louise (Lee) Wells
January 19, 1913 – December 28, 2007

This is a picture of her from a long time ago. The Alzheimer’s had ravaged her brain and her body but that did not stop her from stepping from this earthly world to the Heavenly world on Friday at 3:16 pm with me, my sister, my brother in law, her sister, and her neice at her bedside. She went peacefully, in her sleep. Had she lived to the 19th of January 2008, she would have been 95 years old. The day before she left us, she “talked” to many of her relatives who had gone on before her. She called them by name. And she saw Jesus, too. On Friday, she slept until she took that final step from this world.
Being with her when she left us was the most difficult thing I have ever done, but I feel blessed to have been able to share that last moment with her. Many people don’t ever have the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved one. I will always thank God for giving me that time with her.
God is truly a God of peace. He has given me comfort during this time and I have the security of knowing I will see her again one day. Hallelujah!

A Christmas Story With a Different Twist

A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York on Christmas Eve and says, “I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.”
“Pop, what are you talking about?” the son asks.
The father says.” We’re sick of each other, and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her.”
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “Like heck they’re getting divorced,” she shouts, “I’ll take care of this,”
She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up.
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. “Okay,” he says, “they’re coming for Christmas and they’re paying their own way.”

The Month Before Christmas

*Twas the month before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas – no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people’s feelings, the school board would say*
* December 25th is just a ‘Holiday’.*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd! *
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Lowe’s the word Christmas – was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears*
*You won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS,
not Happy Holiday!*

“All I Need to Know about Life I Learned From a Snowman…. ”
–It’s okay if you’re a little bottom heavy.
–Hold your ground, even when the heat is on.
–Wearing white is always appropriate.
–Winter is the best of the four seasons.
–It takes a few extra rolls to make a good midsection.
–There’s nothing better than a foul weather friend.
–We’re all made up of mostly water.
–You know you’ve made it when they write a song about you.
–Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize!
–Avoid yellow snow.
–Don’t get too much sun.
–It’s embarrassing when you can’t look down and see your feet.
–It’s fun to hang out in your front yard.
–Always put your best foot forward.
–There’s no stopping you once you’re on a roll.

Lots of stuff going on right now … a little worried about my daughter and what she’s going through emotionally … it’s always difficult when the parent has to watch a child go through it. But things will work out and she will soon come out on the other side and be a much stronger person. God will walk with her through this time. I know that. She knows that. We are loved … by God and by each other.

Copy and paste this link in your url. It’s a song by Christian comedien, Anita Renfroe, that she sings to the tune of the William Tell Overture. It’s a compilation of everything a mom might say in a 24-hour period. Turn up the sound. It’s hilarious!
Miscellaneous Ramblings …

Mike and Erica were orienteering Friday night and Saturday. Then Mike left at oh dark o’clock this morning to go out of town on business. Erica and I went to church and then came home to watch the Texans vs. Titans. I took a nap … a short one … and have stayed inside the rest of the day.
I enjoy having time to myself but sometimes I get a little bored and wish there was something to do or somewhere to go! But then, when I DO have a busy weekend, I wish it wasn’t busy! Guess I just can’t be pleased …
Anyway, it’s supposed to rain tonight and turn cold. I’m so ready for it to feel like winter! We had a cold snap Thanksgiving week … which was good … but then the temps went back up in the high 70’s, close to 80 degrees. It’s only supposed to drop down to about 50 degrees tonight but that’s better than it feeling like summer! I mean, it IS December ya know!
Erica and Michael have been hanging out quite a bit for the past week or so. Holiday time is a difficult time for him emotionally because he lost his mother on New Year’s Day a few years ago. It’s good that he has Erica as a friend. If you think about it, pray for Michael.
On the positive side, we’re going to my nephew’s house for Christmas Day. They live about an hour away from us. My sister and brother in law will drive down from Giddings and join us. We will have a nice dinner and exchange gifts. Each year it feels stranger and stranger, though. Mine and Mike’s kids and my nephew’s kids are all grown now and the dynamics of family get togethers is way different than it was when they were little. But it’s a good season of my life … for me, at least.
Hope you all have a great week. I’ll check back in later …
